Wooden sensory and tactile box: discovering with the 5 senses

This wooden sensory and tactile box (Small Foot’s “Sensory” line) invites you to explore objects by touching, seeing, smelling and hearing them. It has two side openings with elastic fabric sleeves to put the hand inside without seeing inside and to recognize objects by touch, and three removable lenses – magnifying glass, red lens and prismatic lens – to discover them from a new point of view. The upper openings are used for looking, smelling and listening.

What is a sensory and tactile box for?

It is an ideal resource for working on tactile perception and stereognosia (recognizing objects by touch alone), attention, vocabulary and description. It supports multisensory stimulation in speech therapy, occupational therapy and classroom, and fits very well in Montessori and 5 senses work proposals. The elastic sleeves adapt to the hands of children and adults, so it is suitable for all ages.

How to play

• Guessing by touch: one player hides objects by the back door (magnetic closure) and the others recognize them by reaching through the sleeves.
• Explore with lenses: look at objects with the magnifying glass, red lens or prismatic lens to see them differently.
• Smell and listen: use the upper openings to identify also by smell and hearing.
• Control the light: the door and the rotating flaps regulate the interior brightness.
• Individual or collective game (up to 9 players).
